About Sugilite
Sugilite is an obscure and quite rare mineral named after the Japanese geologist, Ken-ichi Sugi, who discovered it in 1944. It is rarely found as crystals, usually being massive in form. It has a distinctive purple colour and is usually opaque to translucent. Sugilite has sometimes been called purple turquoise although there is no connection between these minerals. Sugilite deposits are found in Australia, India, Japan, Canada and South Africa.
